English broadcaster Piers Morgan took a swipe at Jimmy Kimmel in the aftermath of his show’s suspension. On September 17, ABC suspended Kimmel’s show for an “indefinite” period. The decision followed the late-night host’s alleged controversial remarks about Charlie Kirk’s murder suspect.
However, his suspension stirred a debate online, and many extended support to Kimmel. On Thursday, Piers Morgan shared a post on X and slammed the late-night host. In his post, he wrote:
“Jimmy Kimmel lied about Charlie Kirk’s assassin being MAGA, this caused understandable outrage all over America, prompted TV station owners to say they wouldn’t air him, and he’s now been suspended by his employers. Why is he being heralded as some kind of free speech martyr?“

On September 20, Piers Morgan took another swipe at Kimmel by reacting to the aforementioned post. In an X post on Saturday, Morgan claimed his post received eight times more views than Kimmel’s show.
“This post has now been viewed by 8x as many people as watch Kimmel’s show,” Morgan said:
At the time of writing, Morgan’s Thursday post has garnered 9.2 million views.
More about Jimmy Kimmel’s show suspension
On the September 15 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel discussed the Charlie Kirk murder accusation. In his monologue, the host aimed at the “MAGA gang” in connection with the shooting suspect and said,
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
Two days later, on September 17, Benny Johnson discussed Kimmel’s comments with FCC chairman Brendan Carr on his podcast. During the interview, Carr demanded action against Kimmel and allegedly threatened broadcasters.
Later in the day, Nexstar Media Group, which owns multiple ABC affiliates across the USA, announced that it would preempt Jimmy Kimmel’s show “indefinitely.” The broadcasting company issued a press release in this regard and cited the host’s remark about Charlie Kirk as the reason behind the move.
“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, said.
Soon after Nexstar’s decision, Disney subsidiary ABC, the home channel of Kimmel’s show, announced that Kimmel’s show was pulled off the air “indefinitely.”
Following the suspension of the show, Jimmy Kimmel has not made a public statement.
