Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s recent outing, a slow dance to Swift’s own track Shake It Off at a Nashville bar, offered a new glimpse into their dynamic and according to renowned body language expert, deeper truths about who takes the lead behind the scenes.

The relationship between the singer and the footballer has captivated fans and media alike, with their public appearances routinely generating headlines and their trip to Nashville was no different.

But did it give away more about the pair than they might have anticipated? According to Judi James, the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, a tough professional athlete, is not the one dictating their romance.

“We have Travis serenading Taylor here,” James said to thedailymail.com. “Singing straight into her face as they dance like no one is watching in the middle of a busy dancefloor.

“Suggesting the kind of exclusivity ritual you can get when a couple focus so intently on each other that they really do become oblivious to the rest of the world around them.

“Swift responds with a very exaggerated display of approval, as she places her hand on his head and strokes him like ‘an adorable dog’ more than once.”

Judi noted that it’s Swift who seems to be steering the emotional tone of the relationship, and pointed to several recurring behaviors suggesting the Eras Tour star is more expressive and assertive in the relationship.

Their togetherness signals do seem to be becoming less inhibited (for Travis, Taylor was always looking like a smitten teen),” James noted. “But it is still Taylor doing the heavy lifting in terms of showing their love and their romantic narrative off to the world.

“She’s the one throwing her head back in a gesture of loving surrender on the red carpet, baring her neck to signal trust and offering her mouth up to Travis for a kiss. While he seems to convert the offer into a less passionate cheek kiss.

“When they walk together it’s his huge paw containing her hand in a protective clasp, but it’s Taylor doing all the face-watching as though unable to keep her eyes off her man.

“And the dance floor kiss involves Taylor holding Travis’s face in place to ensure his undivided attention and to make sure that she gets the mouth kiss she wants.”

However, this is not a bad thing at all as James concluded that the singer appears to be the guiding force in the couple’s interactions, suggesting the billionaire leading the three-time Super Bowl champion is right for their dynamic.

“It’s probably good that Taylor is in charge of the romantic choreography,” James concluded. “While Travis looks a little more diffident but happy to be led.

“But it does hint that she’s the more focused and certain one in the relationship.”

While the public sees only fragments of their relationship, Swift has previously spoken about their private beginnings, which initially began when Kelce crafted her a friendship bracelet with his number on it during her Eras Tour.

Though he didn’t connect with her at the show, his podcast comments eventually drew her attention and things grew from there as the pair enjoy what appears to be a happy relationship.

“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell.” Swift told TIME in 2023. “We started hanging out right after that… By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple.

“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care.”
