Soccer star Megan Rapinoe thinks Colin Kaepernick would be an ideal selection for the American flag football team in the 2028 Olympics.

The 5-on-5 sport is poised to be a part of the next Summer Games in Los Angeles, with NFL players looking to shoehorn their way into gold medal territory.
Rapinoe addressed one such player she’d like to see in those games during the “A Touch More” podcast with Sue Bird.
“Oh God, he would be so good in flag football. I mean he would be so good in the NFL, let’s just be clear about that. He is still being blackballed from the NFL right now,” Rapinoe said. “I think it would be awesome.”
“He’s my flag bearer,” she continued. “I think that would be really incredible to have that representation of America also be front and center at an Olympics.”
Colin Kaepernick, Flag Bearer?
It’s unclear if Megan Rapinoe was simply making a joke about a flag football player (pun intended) or if she actually wants to see Colin Kaepernick be the flag bearer at the next Olympics.
It’s hard to imagine a man so disgusted by the American flag proudly carrying it during the opening ceremonies.
But then, LeBron James was the flag bearer for the United States in Paris. And Britney Griner had tears flowing when she got to stand on the podium and hear the national anthem being played.
So, as they say, anything is possible.
“That would be really cool,” said Rapinoe.
Would He Really Be ‘So Good’?
Megan Rapinoe, like Colin, seems to be clinging to this notion that Kaepernick is still the player he was when he opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers and left the NFL.
Which wasn’t very good at the time, to begin with.
In his last season in the league, Kaepernick led his team to an atrocious 2-14 record (1-10 in games he started). Now he’s suddenly going to return 8 years later and lead the US to a gold medal?
So no, he wouldn’t be “so good” in the NFL or on the flag football team, Megan.
In fact, an NFL insider recently said the notion that Colin Kaepernick could still play at an elite level and deliver a championship is “delusional.”
