That year, she was 38 years old.
She was a primary school teacher in a poor village by the river. She had never married. People murmured: some said she was too demanding, others claimed she had been betrayed in love and had lost faith in marriage.
But those who really knew her knew only one thing: she had chosen to dedicate her life entirely to her students.
That same year, a great flood struck.

A couple drowned while trying to cross the river by boat, leaving their seven-year-old twin sons behind
Too young to comprehend the loss, the children sat huddled beside their parents’ coffins, their eyes blank and confused, as if waiting for someone to come and take them.
The teacher stood among the mourners, silent, her heart heavy.
That same afternoon, she went to the local authorities and asked to adopt the children.
— “I don’t have a family,” he said, “but I can give them a home.”
No one objected.
She was a respected and beloved woman, and above all, she had a heart more generous than anyone’s.
From that day on, the small tin-roofed house was once again filled with children’s laughter.
The children began to call her “Mom” naturally, without hesitation.
She taught them to read and write, cooked for them, took them by the hand to school, and saved every cent of her modest salary to raise them with dignity.
But life was not easy.
There were times when one of the children became seriously ill, and she had to take him to the district hospital.
To pay the bills, she sold some earrings she had inherited from her mother.
The year Teo failed the university entrance exam, he felt defeated and wanted to give up.
That night, she sat beside him, hugged him, and whispered:
— “I don’t need you to be better than anyone else. I just need you not to give up.”
Over time, the older brother studied medicine.
The younger studied economics.
Both worked hard to live up to their mother’s sacrifices.
While studying away from home, they took turns sending her small amounts of money from their scholarships—small, but with lots of love.
In 2024, during a commencement ceremony at the same school where she had taught, something unexpected happened.
She was invited up on stage.
The principal announced that there was a “very special gift” for her.
From the back of the stage, the two young men—now grown men—emerged.
One was a doctor at a major hospital; the other, a successful businessman.
Each carried a bouquet of flowers, tears in their eyes.
The eldest son, his voice breaking, said:
— “Today we don’t come to give a gift to our teacher.
We come to pay tribute to our mother—the woman who gave up her youth, her life, to make us who we are.”
The minor continued:
— “Mom, I’ve fulfilled one of your old dreams: I built a new house for you, right next to the school.
You no longer have to live under a leaky roof.
And today, we’re here to take you to the city—so you can live with your children and future grandchildren.”
The entire schoolyard was filled with emotion.
The teacher burst into tears.
After 22 years, she was no longer alone.
She finally had a family—not with a husband, but with two children who loved her like their real mother.
That moving ending was the most deserved reward for a soul who gave without expecting anything…
and who received the purest love in return.
