Late-night television host Stephen Colbert has disclosed that he would be willing to swap bodies with President Donald Trump for a full day amid their continuing public rivalry.
Colbert, 61, explained his reasoning for wanting to exchange bodies with the 79-year-old president during his December 18 appearance on Slate’s Political Gabfest.
The entertainer, who is from Washington D.C., made the surprising admission when CBS correspondent John Dickerson, 57, posed the question, “If you could slip into the body of a person for 24 hours, who would it be?”
Colbert responded candidly, “I mean, it’s such a predictable answer for me. But I would slip inside the skin of our president.”
When pressed about his motivation for selecting Trump as his body-swap candidate, he declared that he “would resign.”
“I’ve anticipated this. No scandal, no confession, no Sturm und Drang,” Colbert elaborated.

“Just go, ‘It’s been great. I’m the best, ever. I’m gonna go out on top. I’ve done everything. I’m just gonna go.’ That’s it. It can be a glorious ending, just end it.”
The comedian then raised a concerning follow-up inquiry, “I have a harrowing follow-up question: Is he taking over my body for 24 hours?”
Colbert sought this clarification due to concerns about his wife Evelyn, whom he said he would advise to “see her sister for a while” should Trump occupy his body during those 24 hours.
During the same interview, Colbert addressed his position regarding whether he “should” contemplate a presidential run in 2028.
“Absolutely, I should not run for president,” he conceded, adding humorously, “I understand why you’d want me to.”
Colbert continued, stating that he would need to consult with his “faith leader and my family to see if, once my service on The Late Show ends in May, if I could be of some greater service to this nation that I love so much.”
Colbert’s remarks followed Trump’s criticism on Truth Social, where he labeled him as talentless and demanded CBS to terminate his talk show immediately, despite its scheduled end in May 2026.

Trump’s post came after CBS aired a rerun of a December 8 monologue by Colbert, which ridiculed the former president for his hosting of The Kennedy Center Honors on December 6.
“Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck, with no talent or anything else necessary for show business success,” Trump penned.
“Now, after being terminated by CBS, but left out to dry, he has actually gotten worse, along with his nonexistent ratings.”
He further wrote, “Stephen is running on hatred and fumes – A dead man walking! CBS should “put him to sleep,” NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!”
