“THE DEATH CLOCK”

Billionaire Raj Malhotra’s mansion had never been so quiet.

There was no music.
There were no employee footsteps.
There was no little Arv laughing.

Only one sound broke the silence in the second-floor room…

“Beep… beep… beep…”

The heart monitor.

Every sound was like a knife to Raj’s heart.

He stood motionless by the window. Outside, the sun illuminated the mansion’s enormous garden, a place worth millions of dollars.

But inside that room…

Only death was waiting.

Arv, his only son, was on the hospital bed placed in the middle of the room.

The boy was only eight years old.

Her skin was pale.
Her breathing was getting weaker and weaker.

Medical tubes were connected to his small body.

An hour earlier, the doctor had said words that Raj never imagined he would hear in his life.

—I’m sorry, Mr. Malhotra… we’ve done everything we could.

—The child… has approximately one hour left to live.

One hour.

Raj Malhotra, the man who owned dozens of companies, thousands of employees, and a fortune of billions…

Now he was completely powerless in the face of his son’s last 60 minutes.

He turned to look at the child.

His hands were trembling.

—Arv…

He sat down beside the bed and took the small hand that was already beginning to get cold.

—Dad’s here… can you hear me?

Arv’s eyelids opened slightly.

Her weak eyes looked at her father.

A small smile appeared.

-Dad…

Her voice was so weak it sounded like a whisper.

—I’m not afraid…

Raj was breathless.

—Don’t say that… you’re going to get better… Dad’s going to take you to the sea… remember?

Arv shook his head gently.

—I… I’m going to heaven… to see Mom…

Those words broke Raj’s heart.

Two years earlier, his wife had died in a car accident.

From then on, Arv always said that his mom lived among the stars.

Raj lowered his head onto the bed.

For the first time in his life…

He cried like a child.

In the hallway, the employees were silent.

Nobody dared to speak.

Nobody dared to enter.

Meera was among them.

She was just a domestic worker.

She was 23 years old.
She was quiet.
She always worked with her head down.

But for Arv, she was not just an employee.

Every morning he secretly gave her chocolates, even though Raj forbade sugar.

Every night he would tell her stories before she went to sleep.

Arv always called her by a special name.

—Sister Meera.

Now tears were running down her face.

He looked through the half-open door.

The child was getting worse.

The monitor started playing slower.

“Beep…”

“Beep…”

The intervals between heartbeats were getting longer and longer.

The doctor left the room and said quietly to the nurse:

—Get ready… we’re going to lose the child.

Meera covered her mouth.

No.

It couldn’t be.

In his mind he heard Arv’s voice from the day before.

—Sister Meera… when I get better… shall we fly a kite?

Meera clenched her fists.

-Not…

whisper.

—No… you can’t leave yet…

Suddenly, an idea crossed his mind.

His heart began to beat strongly.

He turned around.

Ran.

He went downstairs.

He walked through the corridor.

He went straight into the kitchen.

The other employees looked at her in surprise.

—Meera? What are you doing?

But she didn’t answer.

He opened an old drawer.

And he took out a small wooden box.

His hands were trembling.

Inside was a small glass bottle containing an amber-colored liquid.

It was something that her grandmother, a healer from a distant village, had given her many years ago.

His grandmother once told him:

—If you ever find someone who is about to leave this world…
and their heart still holds a little hope…

—This might bring him back.

But he also told her something that always made her doubt.

—But remember… if you use it at the wrong time…

—The consequences can be unpredictable.

Meera looked up at the ceiling.

The monitor could be heard from upstairs.

“Beep……….”

A long silence.

He squeezed the jar tightly.

—Whatever happens…

—I have to try.

She ran towards the stairs.

But when he got to the hallway…

A scream came from the room.

-DOCTOR!

—THE BOY’S HEART STOPPED!

They all ran inside.

Meera froze in the doorway.

On the monitor…

There was only one straight line.

Raj shouted:

—ARV!!

The doctor began resuscitation.

—Prepare defibrillator!

Meera looked at the jar.

Then to the child.

Then Raj… who looked like a completely broken man.

At that moment he made a decision.

He approached.

-Mister…

Raj turned around furiously.

—GET OUT OF HERE!

But Meera did not back down.

He showed her the bottle.

—Please… let me try something.

The room fell silent.

The doctor looked at her as if she were crazy.

Raj shouted:

—Who do you think you are?

—What are you going to try now?

Meera looked directly at him.

—This… can save him.

The doctor let out a bitter laugh.

-Are you kidding?

—The child’s heart stopped!

But Raj raised his hand.

He looked at the jar.

Then he looked at Meera.

—Are you sure?

Meera remained silent for a few seconds.

Then he said something that left everyone stunned.

—No, sir.

—But if I don’t try…

—the child will surely die.

Raj looked at the monitor.

A straight line.

No heartbeat.

He closed his eyes.

A tear fell.

Then he said:

-Do it.

Meera opened the jar.

He dropped a few drops into the child’s mouth.

Everyone held their breath.

1 second.

2 seconds.

3 seconds.

Nothing.

The doctor shook his head.

-It’s useless…

Raj lowered his head.

But then…

The monitor made a sound.

“BEEP.”

They all raised their heads.

Then…

“BEEP… BEEP…”

The straight line began to move.

The doctor shouted:

—This is impossible!

—His heart is beating again!

Raj fell to his knees.

But while everyone was celebrating the miracle…

Nobody noticed anything.

Meera was staring intently at the child.

Her eyes…

They showed no joy.

They showed terror.

Because I had just understood something.

Her grandmother’s medicine didn’t just save lives.

It also awakened something else.

And when Arv opened his eyes…

her gaze…

She was no longer the same.

PART 2…

“WHAT AWAKENED IN THE DARKNESS”

The room fell silent.

The monitor kept playing.

“Beep… beep… beep…”

But each heartbeat sent a shiver down everyone’s spine.

Because…

Arv had just opened his eyes.

He took a deep breath, like someone coming back to life.

Raj approached, trembling.

—Arv?

—Son… can you hear me?

The boy’s eyes moved toward him.

And that look…

It froze his blood.

It wasn’t strange.

It was too familiar.

Arv smiled gently.

And he whispered:

—Raj…

The entire room froze.

Arv had never called him by his name.

—What did you say?

The boy blinked slowly.

He looked around.

His eyes stopped on Meera.

She smiled.

—Thank you… Meera.

Meera stepped back.

Pale.

The doctor murmured:

—Perhaps he’s delirious…

But Raj knew that wasn’t the case.

—Arv… do you remember Dad?

The child replied gently:

-Clear.

—But… you look older, Raj.

Raj felt his legs give way.

Only one person said that.

His wife.

Anaya.

The woman who died two years ago.

—No… this can’t be…

Arv looked at him tenderly.

—Raj… don’t be afraid.

Meera was trembling.

She remembered her grandmother’s words:

—This medicine can call to the nearest soul.

And the closest soul…

She was Arv’s mother.

Raj asked, his voice breaking:

-Who are you?

The boy replied:

—I’m Arv…

And also…

Anaya.

Raj’s tears fell.

—I just wanted my son to live…

Arv smiled.

—I didn’t come to replace him.

—I’m only here for a moment.

—To tell you something.

The room fell silent.

Arv whispered:

—Stop living only for money.

—You’ve already lost me…

—and you almost lost our son.

Raj cried.

-I know…

Arv said:

—You just forgot the most important thing.

—The family.

—Kindness.

—And love.

Raj asked:

—Are you leaving?

The boy nodded.

—Souls cannot stay for long.

—Arv needs his body.

Raj cried.

—I don’t want to lose you again.

Arv smiled.

—You won’t lose me.

She pointed to her heart.

—I will always be here.

Then he looked at Meera.

—Thank you for saving my son.

Meera fell to her knees.

—I just wanted to save him…

-No.

—You saved this entire family.

The boy closed his eyes.

A moment later he opened them again.

But now…

His eyes were those of a child.

-Dad?

Raj held his breath.

—Arv?

-Where am I?

Raj hugged him tightly.

—You’re alive…

—You’re alive…

The doctor smiled.

—This… is a miracle.

YEARS LATER

The Malhotra mansion was no longer filled with silence.

It was full of laughter.

Raj changed completely.

He sold half of his companies.

And he built hospitals for poor children.

He named his foundation:

Estrella de Anaya Foundation.

Meera was no longer an employee.

Raj told him:

—From today…

—you’re family.

ONE NIGHT MANY YEARS LATER

Arv was fifteen years old.

I was looking at the stars.

-Dad…

—Do you think Mom is up there?

Raj smiled.

—I’m sure.

Arv said:

-Dad…

—I still remember when Mom came back.

Raj remained motionless.

—Do you remember?

—Just a little.

Arv smiled.

—I remember him saying you’re the most stubborn man in the world.

Raj laughed through his tears.

—Your mom was right.

Arv looked at the sky.

—But he also said…

—that you have the kindest heart.

The wind blew gently.

One star shone brighter.

Raj whispered:

—Thank you… Anaya.

END

Sometimes miracles don’t come from money.
Or from science.

They come from a heart that refuses to give up.

And of a love stronger than death.
