The daughter-in-law slept at her in-laws’ house until 10:00. The mother-in-law grabbed a stick to hit her, but was stunned by the scene in the bed…
After the wedding rituals were over, Mrs. Sharma cleaned the house, grew tired, and went to sleep, while her son Amit and daughter-in-law Priya had also gone to their rooms long ago. But the next morning she woke up at 5:00 and cleaned again because the house was covered in dust and oil. But it was 10:00, her waist was bent, but there was no movement from above.

Just then, she called from downstairs: “Bahu o bahu, come down and cook.” Bahu and bahu. There was no answer for a long time, so she called again: “Daughter-in-law, get up.”
Since her legs were hurting, she didn’t want to go up and down the stairs again and again, so she got up and called slowly, but still got no answer. She was also tired and angry, so she grabbed a stick that was in the corner of the kitchen and went upstairs to teach her daughter-in-law a lesson.
As soon as she got to the top, she was panting: “What kind of daughter-in-law is this, newly married and clueless about etiquette, lying in bed all afternoon?” Get up. After saying this, she threw back the blanket, but was shocked to see blood on the sheet… As Mrs. Sharma pulled back the blanket, her eyes fell on the dark red stains scattered across the sheet. For a moment, the stick slipped from her hand and fell to the floor. My heart began to pound. “This… This blood?” Her voice trembled. At that moment, her eyes fell on Priya, curled up in the corner of the bed, lying unconscious, her face pale, her lips dry, and her breathing very shallow. Mrs. Sharma cried out, “Amit! Amit!” and, ignoring the pain in her back, rushed out. When Amit nervously entered the room, his mother pointed at the bed with trembling hands, “What happened to your wife?” She knelt down, “Priya… Priya, open your eyes,” but there was no response. Then Priya heard a faint moan. She murmured, “Mom… I’m in so much pain.”
When Amit tried to lift him, he saw blood flowing near his legs and waist. The anger inside Mrs. Sharma instantly turned to fear and remorse. “Son, call an ambulance,” she cried. Amit shook the phone, his hands trembling. They both sat beside Priya until the ambulance arrived. Mrs. Sharma kept repeating, “I thought he was lazy… What did I know…” Tears streamed down her face.
Priya fainted when she arrived at the hospital. The doctors rushed her inside. After a while, the doctor came out, his face serious. “Your daughter-in-law has internal bleeding. It started last night. If it had gone on a little longer…” The doctor left the matter unfinished. Mrs. Sharma’s legs gave way. She sat down in the chair and held her head. “It’s all my fault,” she sobbed. Amit took his mother’s hand, “No, Mother, don’t blame yourself.”
Hours later, Priya regained consciousness. Mrs. Sharma was the first to reach him. She touched Priya’s forehead with trembling hands, “Daughter, forgive me. I misunderstood you.” Priya offered a weak smile. “Mom, I wasn’t sleeping… I’ve been in pain since last night. I tried to wake Amit, but he was too tired.” Hearing this, Amit’s eyes filled with tears. “Priya, why didn’t you tell me?” Priya’s eyes began to fill with tears, “I didn’t want everyone to be upset as soon as we arrived at the wedding.”
The doctors said Priya had a pre-existing health condition, which she had never told anyone about. She became serious due to marriage and exhaustion. Mrs. Sharma decided then and there that she would never judge anyone without knowing them. Priya spent several days in the hospital. Mrs. Sharma stayed by Priya’s side the entire time, feeding her with her own hands, giving her medicine, and staying up all night. Neighbors and relatives also began to visit. In front of everyone, Mrs. Sharma said, “It took me a long time to consider my daughter-in-law as a daughter, but now she is my daughter.”
Little by little, Priya began to recover. When she returned home, the atmosphere had changed. Mrs. Sharma hired help for the housework and let Priya rest. One day, Priya took her mother-in-law’s hand and said, “Mother, I’m completely well now.” Mrs. Sharma’s eyes lit up. “No, daughter, I still need to rest.” Amit looked at them both with a smile and said, “Our house is truly filled with happiness now.”
A few months later, the doctor delivered the wonderful news that Priya was completely healthy and would soon become a mother. Upon hearing this, Mrs. Sharma wept with joy. She hugged Priya and said, “The day I misunderstood you was my biggest mistake, but she taught me the greatest lesson.”
Time passed. The child’s cries echoed through the house. Mrs. Sharma would often hold the child in her arms and think that if she had made a decision that day in anger, without knowing the truth, the happiness she found today would never exist. She said in front of everyone, “A house only becomes a home when there is understanding, patience, and love. A rash mistake can become a lifetime of regret.”
And from that day forward, a new tradition began in that house: no one would be condemned without being asked, without being heard. This was the greatest and most precious ending to the story, teaching everyone that true values lie not in reprimand, but in understanding and compassion.
