Ryan Cruz , 27 years old, is a simple man with big dreams.

After months of searching for a job, he finally received a call from a  prestigious company in Makati .
This was his chance to rise, after years of hardship and suffering.

He put on his best-kept long sleeves, cleaned his old shoes, and went out early.
While he was riding in the jeep, he repeatedly read the interview questions he had written on a small piece of paper.

“What are your plans for the next five years?”
“What is your biggest weakness?”

He is smiling.

May be an image of one or more people, hospital and text that says 'HOSPITAL'

“I can do this,” he whispered to himself.

THE EVENT HE DIDN’T EXPECT

He was almost at the building where the interview was to be held when a heavy rain suddenly poured down.
He ran under the waiting shed, soaking wet, and hurriedly wiped his clothes.

Not far away, he saw a  pregnant woman , panting, carrying a small bag.
When he noticed that she suddenly held her stomach, it seemed that something bad had happened.

He came over immediately.

“Miss, are you okay?”
“Brother… it looks like my baby is about to come out…”

He was confused.
There was no one else around, no taxi, no one to help.
He immediately called a tricycle.

“Manong! To the nearest hospital, hurry!”

He was soaking wet, shaking, but he held the woman’s hand as they went to the hospital.

“Just hold on, I’m here. Don’t be afraid.”

When they arrived at the hospital, the woman was immediately taken to the emergency room.
He, on the other hand, stood outside, panting and wet, trying to control his nerves.

THE SAVING OF LIFE

After about an hour, the nurse came out.

“Sir, the mother and baby are safe. Thank you for delivering them so quickly.”

Ryan smiled, as if a thorn had been pulled out.
But when he looked at the clock, his shoulders slumped —
it was twelve o’clock.
His interview was at nine in the morning.

It’s over.
His hope sank again.
But even so, he smiled.

“It’s okay. I saved a more important life.”

He left the hospital without introducing himself.
He walked silently through the rain, wet, hungry, but with a strange peace in his heart.

THE CHANCE TO RETURN AGAIN

Three days passed.
Ryan sat in their small house, counting the remaining money.
A text message arrived:

“Mr. Cruz, please report to our company for an interview re-schedule. The HR Director personally requested your presence.”

His forehead was furrowed.

“HR Director? Me? But I didn’t go last time…”

The next day, he went to the office.
When he entered the reception, the secretary immediately let him in.

“Sir Ryan, please proceed to the HR Director’s office. She’s been expecting you.”

THE IDENTITY

When the door opened, a familiar woman appeared before him.
She was wearing elegant office attire, had a gentle face, and was smiling.

“You…”
“You too…”

This is the  pregnant woman he helped  a few days ago.

The woman smiled.

“It’s me. I’m  Mariel Villanueva , HR Director of this company. And you, Ryan Cruz, are the man who helped me the day I almost gave birth in the rain.”

Ryan could hardly believe it.

“Ma’am… I’m sorry. I couldn’t go to the interview because—”
Mariel smiled and cut her off.
“You don’t need to explain anything. I already know what kind of person you are. And I know that’s the kind of employee I want to have in my company.”

Ryan was crying, barely able to speak.

“Ma’am, thank you… I didn’t expect this.”

Mariel smiled, extending her hand.

“Welcome to the team, Mr. Cruz. And one more thing — I want to introduce you to the reason why heaven has rewarded you.”

A nurse came in, carrying a small baby.
Mariel smiled.

“This is  Liam , my son I almost lost — if it weren’t for you.”

Ryan approached, stared at the child, and couldn’t help but cry.

“Thank you. But honestly, I should be the one thanking you… because you showed me that sometimes, doing the right thing, even if there is no reward, will come back to you at the right time.”

THE CHANGE

As the months passed, Ryan became an official in the company — not just as an employee, but as an  operations manager , because of his humility and caring.
And every time he looked at Mariel and her son, he always remembered the day he sacrificed his own opportunity —
and how that very moment opened the door to his success.

“Sometimes,” he said while looking out the office window, “blessing is, you have to go through the rain before you can feel the light.”
